ENG/VNG Instruction

ENG/VNG testing is time consuming and requires an appointment of 90 minutes to complete. Occasionally your doctor may also request that additional tests be performed. These procedures can add as much as 1 hour to your total test time. Given our strict time constraints, PATIENTS ARRIVING LATE WILL BE RESCHEDULED. Please allow enough time to park and arrive to your appointment on time.

INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR TEST:

LOCATION: Testing can only be performed at our Tacoma office.

CANCELLATIONS: If for any reason you are unable to keep your appointment please call at least 24 hours in advance. Those patients failing to provide this notice will be charged a fee of $75.00. THIS FEE CANNOT BE BILLED TO YOUR INSURANCE.

DRIVER: Occasionally testing will aggravate dizziness. You must have someone to drive you home as you may not feel well enough to do so. Those without rides will be rescheduled.

PROCEDURE: The purpose of vestibular testing is to evaluate the function of your balance system. Testing can be performed using electrodes that are placed around the eyes (ENG) or through the use of video goggles placed over the eyes (VNG). Both the ENG and VNG record eye movements that will provide your physician with information about your brains ability to coordinate balance signals, react to changes in position, and to determine the function of your inner ears.

Many portions of testing can be influenced by medications and/or medical conditions. Therefore we ask that you read and adhere to the following instructions.
